Frisian Farmstead Gouda now available in Quarter Wheels!
excited to introduce a new pack size for our Young and Aged Frisian
Farmstead Gouda. Now available in quarter wheels, they’re more convenient and
easier to handle. If you’ve ever been curious about these Goudas but hesitant
to bring in a full wheel, try out a quarter!
Bandstra brothers grew up on a dairy farm south of Pella, Iowa. After
separately taking some time away, they realized they missed the cows and the
farm life. Mike changed his major from Accounting to Dairy Science and worked
with Horizon Organic Dairy as herd manager. Meanwhile, Jason started his own
herd, starting with 10 one-week old Holstein calves. Mike soon joined Jason and
together they started Frisian Farms.
making started as a way to add value to the farm, but quickly turned into a
passion. Being influenced by their Dutch heritage, they invited a Dutch cheese
maker to teach them the traditional methods of Gouda making. The result is a
young farmstead Gouda that is both nutty and sweet, with a hint of fruitiness.
The texture is smooth and creamy, perfect for melting or just snacking with
some sliced apples. The same Gouda is aged a bit longer and released as the
Aged Farmstead Gouda. The flavor and appearance become more caramelized with
age, and develop notes of butterscotch.
