A call to arms! Help support Rogue Creamery!

As many of you are aware, 2014 has been a challenging year for industry veteran Rogue Creamery.  In the fall and winter of 2013, Rogue underwent renovations in its blue make room and aging facilities.  Earlier this year, Rogue discovered that the cheeses they made during the renovation time period were not developing properly.  They made the difficult decision not to sell any of it and halted cheesemaking for a further 60 days to complete their renovations and get fully back on track. 

All of this has meant that Rogue blue cheeses have been in incredibly short supply or non-existent for most of the year.  As unfortunate as that has been for loyal Rogue customers, we have to admire Rogue for making this tough decision.  Despite the multitude of incentives to do otherwise, Rogue stuck to their principles and did not release any cheeses that failed to meet their strict quality standards.

Rogue has been operating for most of this year at full capacity, but without a supply of blue cheese that would normally bring in the revenue and cash flow that sustains those operations.  As all of you can imagine, that has been a strain on their company.  But they are still going strong and the end is in sight! 

As Rogue starts to release more blue cheeses for sale, we the cheese community should step up and support one of our country’s oldest independent cheesemakers (almost 80 years!).  Besides making exceptional cheeses, Rogue has also been a stalwart in the American cheese industry.  When it comes to critical industry-wide issues like government regulation, food safety, sustainability, consumer outreach, education, and community building, Rogue has been a vocal advocate and industry leader.  The work of Rogue owners David Gremmels and Cary Bryant has been crucial in shaping the present cheese landscape.   In gratitude for all of that they have done and continue to do, we ask for your support and focus on Rogue cheeses.

With Rogue in need of customer support now more than ever, we ask that you consider every-and-any way to pitch in over the next few months.  Clear some space on the counter for a couple new Rogue cheeses, or add a Rogue blue to a tasting menu or cheese plate.  Rogue has been incredibly appreciative of all the support they’ve received during this time, so please keep it up for the rest of the year!

In the short term, here are some options:

1) We are bringing in Smokey Echo Mountain Blue to sub for Smokey Blue for the meantime.  Our internal evaluations were very positive.  Pricing is the same as regular Smokey Blue.  If you are interested in reserving a larger quantity, please let us know immediately so we can add it on to an incoming order.

2) We have our Rogue River Blue 2014 release due in mid-September!  Supply is much tighter this year than in years past, but we have a healthy amount booked.  Order up!

3) For a limited time and while supplies last, we are offering a Buy-One-Get-One free (BOGO) on Rogue Blue Heaven Blue Cheese powder.  For those of you unfamiliar with this product, we have samples available.  Great for popcorn, dips and dressings, with this deal, it should be easier to introduce this novel product to your customers.     

4) Here is a timeline for upcoming cheese releases.  If you’re interested in reserving a quantity of any Rogue cheese, let us know and we will set it up!
